Ritual induced by Beyoncé’s Blackface photo shoot for L’Officiel Magazine’s 90th anniversary celebrating African influences in fashion. Ceremonial steps include covering the face, neck and shoulders with chocolate frosting, forcefully combing out hair, covering frosting with flour, wetting flour with water, and sprinkling with gold. These acts are combined with commentary from video journalist Lovley Ti, whom critiques the photo shoot. The transformation concludes with convulsions of the body, while Fela Kuti’s song Open & Close is heard.
